'72 Westfalia is on its way...

Post by Derek »

I just bought a '72 Westfalia from a guy in Pretoria. This morning it was loaded up by Peter Benn Transport and should be in Cape Town by Wed/Thurs, after which we will complete the water-cooled conversion by fitting a fan to the fitted radiator, as well as sort out the rest of the mechanicals. Then it will go for rust removal and a respray. Luckily the interior has already been redone :)

Nice bus,

What sort of cost is involved getting it to cpt?

Thanks Derek, appreciate it. Cost effective way to get a bus down there to do some touring.

I really enjoy finding these old kombi's and fixing them up. The people who hire them from me really seem to love the experience. I have adjusted my business plan to include selling campers as well, and to date I've sold three of the campers I've fixed up, with another one in the pipeline to be sold in February. Then I'll only have water-cooled conversions in the hire fleet, which will hopefully be more reliable than the air-cooled's when driven by people not familiar with old kombi's.
But I'll keep on buying and fixing up kombi's and getting them back on the road if I can find them...Otherwise they'll just rot away in people's back yards...

Considering they are so few and far between,. I might as well start looking at T3's. Microbus with 2.3, 2.5 motors.. There's PLENTY around for 30 to 40 K.
