Yup..........so the real ones are about a cm closer on each side.

I spoke with Armand yesterday and Kudos to that man.........he also said that its 1cm each side.

I'm so happy to see that this will be an easy fix. It would of been a shame to go all gun ho on a universal speedsters boot floor for my radiator.

It wouldn't be that bad. Most of the 'original' detail has been squared off and lost in the moulding process. But at least you dig have to go that route.

I'm glad that I dig had to go as well............but 1cm is 1 cm..............it's enough to notice.

So work started full blast this weekend on the new version of the roof. I had a lot of bugs to sort out with the send tier of folding parts on the C-pillar that I was really struggling with. Nothing really to report on that as it was a lot of cutting and trimming and binning and cutting and trimming etc etc etc.

I also had to re-do the mounting clips for the A-bow to the frame, the screws that I was using were just not cutting the mustard and because of the torque on the frame, they started to pull out. This won't be a problem once we attach a solid front bow that is welded to the frame, so I countersunk bolts into the bow so that sucker is going no-where.

I also ended up having a custom radiator made as the size that I wanted with the outlet and inlet pipes didn't exist. I'm hoping to have that done soon, but I've decided to re-do the water pipes at the same time to one piece sections so that I'll have zero issues with leaks. It's taken me about 6 months to get the pipes exactly how I want them, now I want to make them look nice.

Stay tuned for pics.

Know what's nice about this hobby?

Is the fact that there are like minded guys and girls out there who really take pride in their work. This picture says it all.

Image

I contacted Roger and asked him if he knows anything about LED's as I liked the idea of changing the globes for LED units, but I was going to be buggered if I was going to pay close to R1000 to do so. I did some sums and honestly, you can build a complete dash for about R100 with LEDs if you have the patience and are not totally ham fisted.

So seeing that I'm going to be tearing my gauges apart anyway to fit a new tach as well as a more accurate water temp gauge I thought about doing all the globes, but then thought that just doing the back-lighting is actually all that I wanted. He forwarded the request onto a friend and above is what the result is.

I could not be happier. This is pride in ones work right there. It has an output for 13 lights and the best part? They can be dimmed to tone down the dash if it's too bright. I was going to try this myself, but I don't have any idea as where to start as well as also ZERO time.

Hi Gary,

Is that a custom made interface board or something you can order online? Please share the part numbers if you don't mind. I am also busy with something similar, but don't really have time to source parts.
The only substitute for cubic inches are more cubic inches.

Alan, normal 12v input, it's all self contained and suited for 12v applications. Will get some more info from Roger and post it when I have it.

Hey bud. No idea to be 100% honest. Will ask Roger to update this with some more info.

No, I understand it's 12 Volt. But the Pic above has output for 13 LED's..
now, the clocks will have, Gen, Oil, Fuel, Brights, Indicators, Surround Lighting, etc..

How do you separate the signals if this board is all connected to the same 12 volt source? if that makes sense..

I have found a local source for 12 Volt DC LED's.. so, I'll replace each bulb with it's own LED, some with resistors to dim them slightly. The kit above looks cool, but I can't see how you separate each signal to each LED..

And why would you pay close to a grand? 12 Volt DC LED's are like 10 bucks a pop. My clocks won't cost more than about 120 bucks tops.

Hey alan. I think you missed the part. But the above is only for the backlights only on the gauges. Not for every little globe.

Muds was selling led globes kits for beetles at about R600 odd. Buying those for my ride would be about a grand. Hence me saying that I could do a set up for my car for under R100 and I said that. Read buddy.......then chew me out. Lolz

The pcb is custom by the way. A total 1 off.

Apologies, I did miss that. Back lighting only.
Well it looks awesome nonetheless.

no need to say sorry........all good.

The backlights are my main concern as they are always dim, they are on all the time at night, the warning lights I wasn't really phased about to be honest. I need to make all of the above more compact and get it in neater behind the dash. At the moment it looks a bit like a whores handbag.

I got a deal on 100 globes wired up from Canada for a little under R3 each. Gonna play around a bit when I have some time.

I'm thinking of using the spare slots for my licence plate light as the stock globe set-up looks kinda basic.
