OK so here is an update on the single cab.
Engine bay before (sorry about the lousy photo)
Engine bay after.
Vintage Speed 1½" exhaust
The above work all carried out by our own resident ACVWSA engine guru Tony Z who has done a flippen amazing job I must say. Big ups to you Tony!!!
Below is a small list of some of the work done:
- Heads very slightly slightly ported, compression ratio bumped up and new valves fitted
- Single carb replaced with a set of dual Weber 36 IDFs
- CB Performance Magnaspark 2 ready to run kit (distributor, coil and wires)
- Degreed crankshaft pulley
- CB Performance fuel pump & filter
- Vented Jaycee fuel pump block off
- Some tinware replaced & powder coated black (more to be replaced later)
- Full stainless Vintage Speed bay window 1½" exhaust and j-pipes all ceramic coated except for the tailpipe section
- Empi airfilters (temporary fit until 3½" CB Performance ones arrive)
- Dual stage immobiliser fitted.
She pulls really nicely now. Just need to get her onto a dyno to fine tune but that can wait for after Bug Jam 2013.
Thanks Tony Z for all the hard work, Muderick for the carbs and Dave Rowley for some of the parts. You guys rock!

Re: 71 Bay single cab
It has been an awesome little project, frustrating at times but good fun and a good result.
I am really glad to hear you are happy with the result. And thanks for trusting me enough to do the work.
Heads were reconditioned, ported, and some valve jobs done. Combustion chambers modified slightly, end result is 8.25:1 CR.
None to soon as two of the intake valves had some pitting on them, 1 of which was very serious.
The dizzy is beautiful and works wonderfully. Big ups to CB performance, I have never seen a dizzy that sits spot on when setting the timing. All the dizzys I have timed in the past jump around at little, but this one doesnt move. timing set from 9deg to 28deg.
The carb kit was a PITA to fit, but I got it going. More to be done to this later. DaveR's linkage, although really good needs tweaking, I'll speak to him about this at some stage.
The exhaust is stunning. Fits well and sounds good. It isnt a performance setup but is great for the bus.
I also fitted a CB performance rotary fuel pump. I'll be fitting one to my bug in the upcoming weeks.
BTW, my bug started not 10min after you left...

Re: 71 Bay single cab
Today the bus went in for a thorough scrubbing. 43 years of dirt was removed and the paintwork brought to as much of a shine as is possible given the state it was in.
The team went completely bos inside, stripping out everything and scrubbing and power-washing every single nook and cranny. The engine bay was scrubbed out and even most of the old Waxoyl removed. These guys really put in a huge effort. A big shout out to 082CARWASH at Glengarry in Durbanville. It wasn't cheap but it was worth every cent to me.
