71 single cab pickup

Post by IMPI »

Hi My oldest son has just got a 71 low light single cab in restorable condition. The bakkie has been standing since 89 but was dealer stocked and as such no paper problems :D it is still in original dirty yellow paint.
It was the victim of an unfinished watercooled conversion with lots of holes cut in the body the whole nose heater demister box was cut out as well as the rear firewall. the speedo shows 69000 km and condition of other bits suggest it may be the original mileage.
A lot of parts went awol but surprisingly 3 hubcaps are still with the car. Our first plans is to fix some of the damage and run the bus as a patina rat and as soon as funds become available do a full body restoration
I will post pics as soon as possible but thought it prudent to put together a small wishlist.
We are looking for used (could be faded but no holes) tail light lenses,
Right front flicker lens low light
front and rear bumpers including brackets
rear apron
air filter assembly above cab round flying saucer looking thing
rear inner firewall with oval hole and rubber (only need a partial)
treasure chest door and latch
moustache engine cross member
15 inch Mercedes or Audi a4 steelies
a set of perfect gates will be great but those on the bus is still repairable although rusty
a section of bed floor will be nice as we need a section abour 50 x70cm to cover the hole cut for the other engine the rest of the bet is almost perfect.
These parts really need to be used if possible except for body parts which must be repairable
As my son is working as a labourer in the Mine money is tight and I have already sponsored the bus as well as the engine welding etc He is basically on his own spares wise.
Luckily I have a 78 scrap bay window bus and it seems that the nose heater boxes are compatible so this will be cut out of the donor and transplanted a lot of the other bits should also fit.
plans are lowering, a 1700 411 engine, steelies, nice exhaust but leave the scars for now except undoing the botched bits.

Hi Armand, well done, always nice when an old bus gets some new love. I had a front indicator lens til recently, gave it away to Muds a coupla months ago, maybe he'd be happy to pass it on if he doesn't need it. Good luck with it all. Post pics!
