Juan, for the moment that's my idea so we will definitely talk when I start on that. I am also toying with having a full resto done out of country.

For some reason I can't see your image. Is it the one on the roof air vent?

May be a clever tax-friendly way of bringing in spares? The vehicle leaves the country, but returns later. Only this time with new panels, spares, etc. attached. As an S.A vehicle maybe not taxed when it returns?
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).

 It DOESN'T mean I am exporting my van for sale!!!!!!

I am toying with the idea of shipping it out to the UK for a full resto. That might sound rediculous however lets look at it from a financial, tax, duties and mechanical perspective as well as what it is that I personally want to achieve with the van. Remember, I am not buying and fixing to sell. I am buying to keep and pass on to my family. My cars will all be held in a family trust and will not be able to be sold. I am therefore intending to rule from the grave as it were.

That being the case, I do not feel that a restoration to the level that I want is achievable in S.A. To date I have not seen or heard of any work from a local shop that will bring the bus back to a condition that I have in mind for it. I do however know that in a country that is besotted with these vehicles, and which furthermore already has all the parts I need right there, that I will get the van back the way I want it done.

I do not have the capability nor the skills level to do the work 'right' and I am certainly not going to learn on this car. Besides, due to the line of business that I am in, I will not have the luxury of making time to learn until I am retired at which time I will be too old to really enjoy my cars. I don't want to create museum pieces or own a car hidden under a cloth cover in a garage somewhere waiting for me to die before it moves on again. I want to drive them now. I want my boys to drive them. I want my grandkids to drive them one day.

Certainly, the costs may be prohibitive and that is also why I say that I am merely toying with the idea. I am in contact with some very well documented and highly respected companies in the UK and depeding on what is said a final decision will be made.

I'm sorry if what I have in mind irks some folks here but each to their own I suppose??!!.

Hear where you coming from...
Get a quote ex-England, but also get a quote from Grand Slam.

If you want a top resto job, go to Impi, even England will not put the dedication in that Armand will.

I absolutley couldn't agree more Herman. I will be doing lots of homework before I make any decision and as I alsready said this won't be anytime soon. I have a lot on my plate at the moment in terms of work and then I still want to finish off my 2 Bays.

Today I moved the panel van from outside into the toy room. Let's hope the economy peps up soon so that I can do something with this van. Until then at least it won't rust any further. :hangloose:

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.
