Re: My Type 1 turbo circuit racer (update pg43)
The dyno on saturday went pretty well. It stayed together and most of the stuff seems to be working good. Only big issue on the dyno is the one boost pipe shot off the first time I turned the boost to 0.8 bar. I shat my pants when it come off. Lol
Other than that, a couple of small oil leaks and the one water sprayer pump took a shit. The OEM VW pump is still working, but he fong kong pump decided its enough.
As for the tuning, the throttle body tuning was a bit of a bitch... the turbo comes in so aggressive that you cannot really tune the off boost part. Partial throttle at 4000rpm sees 0.5 bar boost fairly easy. I think the next step is to take the throttles off and make a plenum setup with one throttle...
Got back home from the dyno and let my dad take her for the first drive around the block, I lied to him about the power before hand.
Told him it made 110kw on the wheels. So when he came back told him I lied just a little about the power... lol His smile when coming back home said it all.
All loaded and ready to go to the dyno

At the dyno. Steve from SL performance tuning

0.8 bar boost with very conservative ignition timing. 17' advance under boost
177 kw at the wheels and 358nm on the wheels. No compensation factors and a fairly warm intercooler. Charge temp was at around 50'c.

glad she held up Louis
Thats a pretty good number.
Have you got any further tuning in mind or are you staying with the 177kW

Re: My Type 1 turbo circuit racer (update pg43)
I first want to go drive the car on the track and see how it runs... the boost is still fairly low, so there is more power in the boost and in another cam.

Re: My Type 1 turbo circuit racer (update pg43)
Amazing. Looking at that graph: I would normally expect the power output to be more peaky than the torque but this one is the other way around

The torque is pretty aggressive which is normal for a turbo setup.

Very nice Louis! I'm sure she can take more timing without issues. What is your CR? Must be fun to drive!

Re: My Type 1 turbo circuit racer (update pg43)
The power does pick up by adding ignition advance. When adding 3' advance from 17 - 20 I saw around 8kw increase. For now I just want to drive it and see that everything holds up before trying to get more power.
The compression is around 8.5:1

Re: My Type 1 turbo circuit racer (update pg43)
I didn't realize 3* can make so much difference. Tuning comes with experience I guess and I'm still learning every day. Keep the updates coming!

I think its a awesome result ! I agree to drive it like that for now to sort out all the small issues and enjoy the fruits of your labour before chasing more hp.
good job man !

Re: My Type 1 turbo circuit racer (update pg43)
We took #71 and #170 to the track yesterday.
The turbo setup all seems to be working pretty well, drove it on low boost feeling the new suspension setup out. The torque is awesome!!! It pulls like a beast.
Not on the edge yet and already able to run a 1:12,8 at Zwartkops.
