My Ex-Airheads, 80's, 90's, 2000s, 2013.

Post by acpaterson »

Riiight,

So my History with Airheads started in early 1981.
This was a nose-damaged baby blue 1600 twinport. Baja Conversion which went far and wide around Joeys, and eventually got resprayed Black, Dark Blue, Light Blue and White nose. Roof off, Soft top made, it was a Killer Baja.. No Pics of that version tho.

Next, late in 88, I had left JHB, moved to Port edward, and worked at the Wild Coast. Bought "Obviously" (Looked identical to this one). and he carried us around for surf trips.. Used to get stopped every other day by the local rozzers as we crossed the bridge from the Casino.. Hands inspection, dog sniffers, it was lank funny..

Sometime around 91, I had moved to Durbs, and I bought this. Lasted a few months as I had no garage, couldn't maintain it, it was a bad idea.

Down to cape Town in 94, and I hit a luck. I enter a Kelloggs Fruitful Bran Cerial Box competition, and make it to the Finals.. 8 people from around the Country. I picked an envelope with the Silver key, and this was given to me.. Sold it a few months later to put a deposit on a house as the missus was preggie.. (yes, thats me with my surfer's hair.. lol..)

Image

Roll on a few years, I get an itch, and by a rust bucket here in Cape Town, strip it, and do a chassis up street rod build. I think the guys out in Ottery (Mark??) helped me with a motor. 1835, 44 mm Dellorto's, open rear deck lid, fully built interior, R Fosgate 0-301 Watt SQ Class Winner, built in my backyard in Tableview.. This thing could piss off..

Image

Got slammed one night, and drove it into a high curb on the side of a parking lot.. and also blew a piston or plug, it dropped one of them, and I literally gave it away in the cape ads..

Now, the little Red Porsche..

We are suckers for these cars...

regards

Alan
