That was the end of our 2013 summer family holiday, we left home Friday 7th June & traveled to Bristol Volksfest, left Bristol on Sunday & headed straight to Dover.
Traveled on a DNDS Ferry & arrived in Calais on Monday morning, drove straight to Rotterdam, from here we traveled to Amsterdam. The weather was forecast to rain so we headed straight to Hanover.
We stayed in a small village called Arnum & we cycled into Hanover & back a couple of times.
From Hanover we headed to Wolfsburg. After Wolfsburg we headed back through Hanover & headed on to Hessisch Oldendorf.
Once we left Hessisch Oldendorf we went to Hamlin & then on to Essen we stayed on night here traveling into the city on the train.
We headed out from Germany then & back to The Netherlands were we stayed at Arnhem.
We traveled on from here to Chimay in Belgium before finally heading for home on Sunday.
In total we spent £2,100 on everything as opposed to £2,700 in 2011 we traveled 2,200 miles compared with 2,400 in 2011 the LPG made a massive difference I spent £900 on fuel in 2011 compared with £400 this time mainly down to the LPG which is widely available in Europe & is much cheaper than the UK I had a 3 adapters in total & I had no trouble getting fuel. It works out that I was doing on average 35 miles to the gallon fully laden with a trailer on the back which was full to bursting. When I went in 2011 I had myself, my wife my eldest daughter who was 20 my second daughter who was 17 & my third daughter who was 18 mths old.
This time we took myself, my wife my two youngest daughters who are 3 & 18 mths old. I saved a lot of money by not having 2 adults to feed but we did have an additional moth to feed with the little one. We did by some clothes this time but this is included in what I spent.
The whole holiday went incident free with no breakdowns the only problem I had was hitting a speed bump in the road I hadn't noticed & the trailer detached, the cable pulled out of the plug but I had tools to repair it & no damage was done.
We enjoyed the Netherlands best the people speak perfect English & everywhere is clean & well organised we managed to miss the bad weather they had when we traveled to Germany.
Germany was very hot during the 10 days we spent there, the biggest problem we faced was the fact that most campsites are in wooded areas & they are usually near a lake which people swim in, the trouble with that is you get lots of Mosquitoes & we were covered in bites by the end of the 10 days. German people are generally very friendly & helpful & everywhere is clean & we organised you can usually find where your going very easily.
Belgium is very nice but more rural & not such an advanced country as Germany or Holland. The biggest problem we had in Belgium was the weather there was a lot of rain Friday & Saturday & the whole place turned into a mud bath.
After our epic European Holiday, our first trip away was up to Camper Jam, it was a great show & I really enjoyed, my wife was working so me & Leah went up & camped by some good friends.
I met the Wilma's on Saturday, when I tried to find the rest of TLB on Sunday I think they had all gone home.
The next show we went to was a bit nearer to home, Dubs at the Castle in Caldicott. http://www.dubsatthecastle.co.uk/
A great show that gets busier & busier every year:-
