A Westy called Joe

Post by Warwick-Lowlight »

Well the story goes like this

As some of you good people know I am also known as the chicken man
Now being the chicken man takes me down to an Abbotoir down in Gordans Bay every 8 weeks as thats when we deliver our chickens to Laziena
About a year ago on one of my drop offs with not much going on in my mind I thoughth that I spotted a nose sticking out from the dense alien vegetation that seems to be the only thing that can handle the wind down there
Dropped off the birds and went to go and have a look

Oh Yeah it is a bus that was hiding behind this little house
No one home
So I left a note
Name - number - If you would like to sell please contact

8 weeks pass with no call
So on the next drop off we pop in again and then we meet Joe
Many 8 week slots pass with the pop ins and chats
More on Joe the man to follow after I get all the details
Basics
Joe is a shoe-maker and a surfer and a combi junkie
Joe was the maker/inventor of the strops that were down in Greenmarket square in the mid 80's
Says it was a mad time of his life as the bussiness grew too big and had no more space for all the cash 8) so he got out of it
Nowdays known as downscaling

Back to the bus
Seems after one of his many busses died a friend of his sons father gave him the bus
This could prove a bit hassle-ish later as the title owner has passed many years ago
Joe took the plates and disc off the dead bus and swopped to his new one and drove around like that for ages
AS time progressed the rust got rustier but on Joe went dogging all the road blocks
Then the engine died so up on blocks the bus went - waiting for funds to repair

This is how I met Joe and his beloved bus
Up on blocks and waiting to make enough bucks at the markets selling shoes for the repairs - while still trying to live

Christmas was just about to happen so I thought I would pop in and give the old man a little present
You got it 2 chickens
Arrive at the house
Door is open - call but no sign of Joe
More calling and eventually i hear a moan from inside
Enter and there I find a very ill Joe
Turns out he had eaten something not lekka
Offered to get him to a doc but there was no ways - just some water
Again we chat about his beloved bus
I then call his phone that ha can speed call me if he needs as there are no people about to help

On leaving Joe looks up from his sick bed and says

Warwick dont worry before I die I will leave a note and the bus is yours

A few days of calls and Joe makes a great recovery

We still have not made a deal

A month ago I had a meeting down at Laziena so I popped in and dropped off some farm fresh apples
We talk and we sort off get there to some sort of a deal
Its a big maybe as he still would like to fix up the bus and go and visit family that he thinks are up near PE
A few calls and Joe is still fighting with the choice

Then out of the blue he calls and says his mind is made and I can come and fetch :hangloose:

The next day a trip down to the mall to get my youngest a birthday present with my wife
Have a little time to kill before we need to fetch the kids so we pop in so Tina can meet Joe and his /now maybe our bus
Tina has heard all the stories after my visits and feels very much part of the saga

Arrive and Joe and I shake on the deal
But it seems there is trouble in bus deal paradise
A certain party that does trade very close to the German legend in the area is comming around to look at the bus

Seems the deal is off again as the other $*%^$*%^$*%$%^$$&^ has more cash than me

Give Joe some time to think it thru - I think it was a day or two and pop in again as you guessed it chicken time again

Well seems there still are a few honourable people in the world

"I gave you my word on the bus and its still yours as I feel that you will do the best by my bus "

:10:  :callook:

LEGEND JOE AND HIS BUS THAT WILL DEFINATELY BE CALLED "JOE"

Hope to get a trailer today and go and fetch

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Well we went down the pass and I must admit I now have the respect for the robots !!!

As I came over the pass there were perfect groups of cars headind to thier desinations

Pity the Cape weather had a game to pull as I saw at least 4 cars with the bended fenders

Well back to the story

Made it over the hill safe with trailer in tow

We get to Joe and off to work we set

Image

Bra Joe heading up the steering

Da bus

Image

Sorry forgot the first look

See if you can spot

Made it easy cause no aliens

Image

Joes neighbors had a deal on with the okes that fixed up the pass

Well hereJoe and me
Image
Not -- sweat -- it was raining when we put the bus on th trailer :finger4u:

Happy bunnies
Must admit I had to take a pic of 'Sweet Pea " to give as a keeper

Will post later as was a bit close to the bone today
