Loving that volksrod, wonder if it was a real split Beetle used as a donor....any idea if there's a build thread somewhere on it?

The Taller Waller shorty was hacked many years ago from a 1956 single cab by a guy called John Goodenough. It used to live in Jhb.

That was a real split beetle, I saw it before it was chopped, Mark found it in a river bed in Namibia and brought it back. It was completely wrecked though, I think it made its way several km downstream every year when the river came through, chassis and roof structure were non existent.

Waller taller was at one get together in JHB. There was another split with it that day if I recall correctly.

Don't really care about the donor car - I say cut up or shut up......

BUT

WTF is going on with the spring mounts and shackles on that (weirdly bent??)front axle? Looks a little dodgy in this pic, I hope it is the camera doing it.... because there is no excuse for suspect engineering on anything that is supposed to be on the road

It was at the very first Kaapse Kombi Kult gathering at Innisfree Park in Sandton; there were several splits in attendance. John used to use it to market his business, raising precast concrete walls, electric fencing, etc. At that time it was powered by a 2.0l Golf GTI engine, and had precast concrete side gates with electric fencing on top. He also had a 1960 single cab that he planned to do a roof chop on. Fortunately he sold it before finding the time to hack another perfectly good vintage SC.
