Good thing you did not call them the Klapmuts Kombi Klan

Putting on a white sheet with greasy hands is just not the same.

:D Good progress this week. Started out on Monday, took a chance and drove the bus to the licensing office. Filled in forms to introduce the bus onto the NATIS system. My VIN no is shared with an International tractor. Went off to the SAPS so that they could inspect, verify, etc the VIN no. Did the weighbridge thing and back to the traffic dept to submit all that info. This info also included my affidavit (no papers, was a wreck, photos, receipts on the rebuild, my long story, etc, etc). Paid for a 3 day temporary "plates". Was told to wait a few days as the whole lot had to be approved in Cape Town. The next day (yes, this city works for you  ), I received a call to confirm my application was successful ! Rushed back on Wednesday to do the rest i.e collect more forms, off to do the "microdot" thing, then to the SAPS for clearance again, and then back to the traffic dept. At this stage I got crapped on for doing all of this in the wrong area, I was supposed to do this in Stellenbosch according to the powers that be, and for my sins, I must get a CF registration plate ! I told her no worries with my CF plates, and could I apply for a special licence. So, just waiting for a signature for that application and if approved, my bus is legal and registered in my name. This really was'nt such an ordeal.

In the meantime I made use of my temporary plates, Sean's aircooler and 6v battery and put on almost 200 kms - I still want to drive this bus to the George Show, and I need to test and service it - it is slipping out of gear here and there, was running a bit hot, but she is going to George 8)

Still plenty of work to do, but for now, to drive her "as is" is proving to be great - if not slow- fun !

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Love the way the future driver is eying out the lack of "Green Tin" installation, you going to get it ........... once she starts talking .

Paul, why S licence??? That means you can only drive to shows and back and with no passangers.
Why do we celebrate the guy that invented the wheel??
Surely we must celebrate the guy tat invented the other three

That's not the case with the S licence, you thinking of an exempt licence. Special licence gives you the reduced annual licence fee as well as being exempt from roadworthy. Other than that, you can use the car everyday as normal.

It is true regarding passengers, I don't think I'll be using this bus as often as my Westy and '65 bus. All these vehicles and annual licences - it's damned expensive as well !
Special licence is R70 per year
