Sighted In Harare...

Post by AKG1600 »

Greetings all.

I spotted this '72 1500 Beetle while on my travels in Harare yesterday. Unfortunately it's already sold. I couldn't get pics of the interior as the new owner has the keys already. It looks all original upon 1st inspection.
I've been seeing quite a few Beetles on the road of late. I will post more as I come across them.

Cheers!

Yeah. This one looked like it was looked after well enough. No oil leaks from the TP motor, the body showed some surface oxidation. Now I'm a 'Bugophile' I find myself perpetually on the hunt. Clearly I've been infected. :D

The painted engine case makes me wonder if that is not a competition engines rebuild engine...

Hmmm --- Dont think so - competition motors subs were painted a sort of watery transparent blue colour and that engines genny stand is the same silver as the casing - made to look nice by an owner ?

Amazing colours emerge on some of the rebuilds these days
In some of the shops, if the builder was painting fence poles at the time, then the morors would be silver.
If they were were painting farm machinery at the time, then the engines could be John Deere green , Massey Fergusson red , or Fordson blue !
Take your pick---Hehehe!

On the other hand, how many competition rebuilds are still around? - been some time since they did a wheels up.

there is still a couple of comp engines doing the rounds.... they painted the engines with a couple of coats to seal the casing's oil leaks. :)

Hi There! Todays find is a 66 Karmann Ghia with 1300SP motor. What do you reckon it's worth?

I'm a little annoyed with photobucket because it keeps cutting the pics. No idea why. Sorry volks.

Nonetheless, enjoy!!!

The question is would it make the journey. :)

From the brief inspection I made, there appears to be front suspension issues. What exactly I couldn't say. The sales folk couldn't tell me anything useful at all.

They're asking US$8,000.00. What's a fair price? I didn't think so at all, but being the lowly ranked member I am, I thought it prudent to refer to the forum for guidance.
