Re: 2L golf motor in microbus
have any one consider th 2.3 or 2.6 5 cyl vw/audi engine in a split/bay/microbus. like the 1995-1999 used to came out ? my dad have one and its power is greate. 100kw and 200 nm. and so is the fuel consumtion. getting btn 7.5 to 8.5 kmpl or as low as 6 when driving hard with a trailor.

Best motor that VW ever made, and the best balanced, was the cost of casting and twisting the crank that has made them discontinue it in all but the most expensive racers.louisvr45 wrote:have any one consider th 2.3 or 2.6 5 cyl vw/audi engine in a split/bay/microbus. like the 1995-1999 used to came out ? my dad have one and its power is greate. 100kw and 200 nm. and so is the fuel consumtion. getting btn 7.5 to 8.5 kmpl or as low as 6 when driving hard with a trailor.

Re: 2L golf motor in microbus
I had an Haudi 500 with the 2.2 5 cylinder 10valve and it was smooth, sounded so nice, but it wasnt frugel on the go-go juice. The car did 417 THOUSAND kilos on original engine and gearbox when I sold it.
Drove a T3 microbus 2.3i for work a couple years ago, down to Dêbên and back, but it was anything but fast, had only 4 gears so passing trucks over the van reenen pass was absolutely frightning - averaged around 4 kilos per litre...

Re: 2L golf motor in microbus
Boston Japtech are R5800 for the 2.0 now. Japan Auto Trading in jetpark are a little bit less.......I have had better dealings with JAT......I reckon the cost to do this conversion on a beetle using new parts would be about 20K.Chucker02 wrote:ok good to hear that! whats the price ont those 2L in pta? here in bloem they go to R6500!! thinking of driving up sometime and buying the motor there!

Re: 2L golf motor in microbus
Had the Passat CLI, and the Audi 500i and if you did not ride them as if you stole it, then got close to 10Km/lt . Must say mostly open road.Golfmad wrote:I had an Audi 500 with the 2.2 5 cylinder 10valve and it was smooth, sounded so nice, but it wasnt frugel on the go-go juice. Re: 2L golf motor in microbus
Yeah, it is such a nice sound that smooth 5 cylinder inline. But the 2.2l 5 cylinders was basically exactly the same as a 1.8 4cylinder, with another piston, bore and stroke is identical, so its a good machine no doubt. Friend of mine had a passat but the 1.9 5 cylinder carb model, and it was HEAVY on juice allthough it sounded nice - I had 1.8 Passat, same era, 4 cylinder, and I beat him hands down with performance and fuel economy. I miss my passat !

Re: 2L golf motor in microbus
You right, I loved my Passats, nobody wanted them, and I collected them for half price..Golfmad wrote:Yeah, ........ I miss my passat !
Had all the models of Passat, went from Beetle to type 3 Fastback to Passat, had all the models till this last one, instead of getting the 2012 model, I changed to Audi A4, why you ask, I do not know, went mad I think.
Should have got the CC but had to fall out of it, could not get out like normal.
Oh!Well, I will wait for the new model, and go back to Passat.
Think the big, 3.2 FSI Vw motor is the right motor for the Microbus.

Re: 2L golf motor in microbus
We stil get 7 in city and 8 (with trailor) on highway with our 2.6 5cyl vw microbus.Golfmad wrote:I had an Haudi 500 with the 2.2 5 cylinder 10valve and it was smooth, sounded so nice, but it wasnt frugel on the go-go juice. at a time when the motor start to overheat when going over 105km/h we got over 10km per liter with a loaded trailor. and it got over 250k km on the clock

on an aircooled alternator there is 4 wires. on a golf alti there are only 2 wires.

Re: 2L golf motor in microbus
Golf alternator is internally regulated, hence the two wires.
Type 4 alternators are externally regulated and have those extra wires...

If it's too low, you're too old
