Project Bus

Post by Junior »

Hi guys I have spotted this bus in some ones garden kind of thing and I in the process of finding out who's it is but for the meant time Im not telling any one where it is until I have paid for it or I'm not able to by it. The only rust I could spot of on the whole thing was a small dent about 10cm below the back window. The engine lid is missing and there is no motor but its the original paint!!! The front windscreen looks like a spider web with all the cracks in it and there is a merc grill on the front??? I would guess that it had a water cooled conversion at one stage. That's all that I could spot that was wrong with it. I only got one pic as there were 4 other people in the car telling me that I was waiting there time. O and there were 2 beetle bodies but they were rusted

'Low light' Bays only had the top part of the roof (above the windows) painted white, not all the way to the waist line

Agree with Pine, definetly not the original paint job, looks ok on the photo, hopefully they have'nt butchered it too much in the engine compartment to fit the watercooled motor - good luck junior :D

See if the nose is cut to fit the radiator. Also check if they cut the engine bay to fit another w/c engine. With my bus they didn't cut the nose, but they did cut the cross brace brackets in the engine bay.

Any update on this bus ?

Looks like the fresh air vent has been widened as well or its missing the vent cover.

Okay well I've contacted the owner and got the reply that is sentimental or some story so he will not sell the bus. So that's the bad news, then now today I came across this thing hiders in the back of some secret place. Any way well I'm now faced with the choice of maybe selling my 75 beetle to make space and have some money for this new project. This leaves me with the other thought of I must still finish my 64 beetle that needs some major attention so I can actually use the beauty.
Any way I could not get great pictures of the thing because it's hidden behind a mountain of motors :o I have checked the vin numbers and it was not updated with the new system way back when so I can register it as a scrap build. Everything is there its just got a smashed front windscreen 2 or 3 little dents mainly from the pile of motors that have bumped it a few times but it is very easily fixable. As for rust the whole back load bed (I forgot to mention its a low light single cab) is still
In tacked, but there is a small rust hole on the right of the engine compartment and at the base of the right hand side apron. Other than that not much other major rust as far as I could see which is very surprising as its been standing out side for over 5 years!!! The motor is there but I don't know the full story as to why it was parked there in the first place. You can turn the fly wheel with your hand so I would hope that it's fixable. The picturs make it look more rusted thames it really is and where it is rusted it is in a flat area witch would make it easier to cut out and fix the pannels. I'm now waiting on a price from the owner and I will see where I go from there :hangloose:

I will post pics on Sunday as soon as I'm with a computer with good connection.
