Hey guys. I just wanted to share what I'm doing this side of the Atlantic.

I sold my 70 Bug, but kept my T4. Here's what it looks like in my 66 Panel...

Well hello from that sorry bunch in the picture! Eddie and Darryl were visiting me that day in my town and we went to my girlfriends work (casino) to have lunch.

Eddie is set on having a pancake engine in his split panel, but I feel the upright would have been less work and less surgery on the bus. By the time he is done, it will probably look like the factory built it that way.

You know Monte, the sides of the engine compartment were already cut from the previous owner...so the pancake was able to fit right in.

thats a fair bit of welding... not too bad. Surprised that the T4 fits with its original cooling.

Wow eddie lots of time lying on the floor there, good work!
I notice that the exhaust pipes are of different lenght, is there a reason fo this? Would a 2 into 1 of equal lenght not give you better power? and the you could have dual mufflers? Or am I typing $##@#%$&?

4into 1 is always best for VW's because of the firing order...... thats why the GT dual-tip is so crappy and overheatss.....

Thats what I heard anyway ;)

Hey, Eben that is also what I was lead to believe, but a few weeks ago I was at Volkspares and checked out some Dyno tests they had done and they had it on paper. The best exhaust was actually the one I was convinced was the worst. The motor they ran was a stock T1 1600 and tests were run on a stack of different exhausts, the one that topped the list is also the cheapest, it is a copy of one or other Brazilian Kadron, it is not tuned nor is it merged as a 4-1 is, it looks like something slapped together in someones back yard, results spoke for themselves, 1Hp more than the next best. :? I think Armand also spoke of a similar result regarding this cheapy exhaust :?:

Hi guys. I made that header using the available space i had considering that I'm using the heater boxes. I also thought of the possibility of turbocharging this engine in the future. With turbocharging the length of the exhaust primaries is not as critical from what I've read and seen on motors myself.

Vader. That was a LOT of time cursing and laying on the floor. Thanks for the compliment.

It is curious an engine would go against what industry professionals have been telling us for years. Did Volkspares share the specifications of the different type exhaust systems they tested?

One final bit of info on Eddie's project, he decided to go back to upright cooling as of this writing, but that could change. :P

They tested 7 different systems, the ones I can remember off the top of my head were, the cheapo mentioned before, a OE pee shooter, 2 4-1 merged with equal length pipes systems one was a TNT (Volkspares sell these, came in at second best) the other brand I can't remember, and SP type (Monza style) also by TNT, the others I can't remember.
