One thing that I am sure about.
The young guys at the test centres, as well as the young cops, do not know about the number under the back seat, they all use the vin plate.
This also happened with my beetle both the cops and RWC guys only looked at the vin plate and engine number, and the car was on my name. BUT I made sure the numbers match...... :D

No, not the donor. Betty looks like she was in a smash. The donor looks very straight

Well the donor is now with its new owner. Got collected today. I did let go of the 4-tab bonnet and wiper motor but I believe we are both happy.
Now I can really get cracking with the only oval I have. During the week I will be enquiring about police clearance and whatnot, maybe treat and prep the rear backing plates and drums for the weekends task of installing new rear seals and everything else to get the wheels on. Shocks will come later. Just found a torque wrench so I am sorted!
After that, THE MOTOR!!!!
taking a while hey? …

Pic of the donor, loaded onto a trailer to be taken to its new home, where I think it will be salvaged as a long term restoration project!

Sidenote, that is my non-VW in the background there

Tight with finances. Looking a new place. Just no money at the moment, till I build some up again, I can start again.

Okay. I managed to get something together to do some work on the car. Thanks to Bushpig for sourcing some stuff I needed. You are a legend Bruce :)
Now. This morning, I got one more rear wheel seal to install to get the backing plates on. But the thing you have slip the seal into had some bent in edges. Which damaged the last seal.
Hence getting this new one. Cut a long story short, the seal got damaged again. Now I took one of those parts off my spare gearbox and attempted to clean it. When NEXT weekend comes, I can give it another try. Right now I am not chuffed. I have been in these f***ing backing plates for months!!!! I just want to get the damn wheels on so I can move on. Till next time.

Update to some extent.
I went on saturday to get 3 rear wheels seals (you can never be too careful) but Volksieworld was closed. That sucked. But it gave my girlfriend and I some time to walk through the pick n pay to shop for a flat we are moving into.
Then what I did was use the good old rust convertor on the pedals and other bits and bobs, now i have the pedal cluster assembled and shiney and all 4 corners (drums and backing plates) shiney and black.
All I need is to place in the last rear wheel seal then I can put everything else in so I can tempoarily get the wheels on! Won't be tightening the big wheel nuts properly in cae there is something to fix when we get to bleed the brakes when the engine is running.

But at least I am moving on with it now. Which i am happy about

The wheels are on!!! Big step for me. Took long enough.

Note: brakes are not bled and drums are just tightened sufficiently to not let them slide off or anything … just in case I need to open them up again.
