Dutchess 72 Bay Camper

Post by Timone »

Family photo Dappermuis and the Dutchman at the farewell. :(
Image
The Dutchman has been renamed to Dutchess (us girls must stick together). Dutchess piggy backing to her new home. :)
Image
The Dutchess could not be towed, due to Dappermuis's last Rock 'n Roll outing when he Rolled onto a Rock and damage front suspension.
Image
Dutches has some missing parts, Gone with the wind comes to mind.
Image
And I thought my fart was bad.
Image
There is minor rust in places, but so far nothing love, attention and angle grinder can't fix.

The only interior are the stearing wheel and the front seats, at least it is a soft drive.

More updates and pics to follow, as we get down and dirty with her.

Congrats on your bus !!
Are you going to kit out the rear yourself or try and get some original interior for her.
What do you need to do to get it into driving condition?
Why are the pics so small ?

Hi Guys,
Thanks ChrisG for the good wishes. I must say I can not wait to get her right, can see myself with a cup of coffee and rusks, checking out the views. 8)

Splitz, I am in two minds about the interior. I did not see much of other buses interiors, but will go around and see if I can get ideas. She is bare at the back, so it is like a blank canvas. Any drawings or advice will be appreciated.

To get her driving, i am very lucky there, she is running, but her tie rods ends needs to be replaced, she does not have indicator switch/box and wiper switch/box, front windscreen is cracked on both sides, the back lights not working, so need to look at the wiring. The brake fluid container needs to be looked at, leaked out at the back of the seat. Dappermuis drove her onto the trailer, so am very lucky and chuffed that I could buy her from him. Thanks to Dappermuis. :D
Well the pics are so small, for all and sundry to come and have a look at her. :TIC: I will try and add bigger pics next time.

Hi
I am very happy to see the former dutchman getting the attention it deserves... The Wipers work from one of the buttons, just right off the steering. The water bottle has a valve, like the one found on a car's wheels, where you can pressurise it, and when you depress the centre of the wiper button, it will spray the windscreen.

Regards

:hangloose: Congrats Timone. I think I have an engine hatch for the Dutchess. Is that opening above the engine factory fitted, the cover is obviously home made, I have the correct one for you if it will fit - enjoy your bus 8)

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Hi Jolas,
Thanks, I do not know if the lid is factory fitted. I am going next week to start working on the Dutchess, and start making a list....s, of her parts. We bought some Rubbing compound and car polish, so I am going to do some elbow grease next week. Bushpig just laughed about the time I want to go to the Bus, but hey she is now in Paarl and I am in Somerset, it is like a carrot to a donkey :flogging: and you just can't get to it.

Hi Jolas,
Sorry to hear about your A Frame, is there maybe anybody that can help me with a A Frame for a Kombi in the CT area? I found a donar bus that I need to take to Paarl. :zhelp: Will post pics of her as soon as I can.

Can anybody give advice on the following ?
Here are pics of Dutchess's roof. Do I need to take this off to bare metal and then respray her roof? :? It looks like a dried river bed in Namibia.

Bushpig got hold of a spliter and will be tackling the Dutchess's tie rods this weekend. We need to take them off and replace them.

I did some elbow grease today. :bn: did not know my arms and back will feel like this tonight, and I used a machine to help buff. Here are the before and after, it does not seem much, but o boy she shines like a star. Will do it again later, just have to get my Dutch courage haha

I stripped her front to see what need attention, and was a bit pussle about all the holes in the bumper, do not know if it was for spots or ..? :?:
