Did a trip over the long weekend in August departed Saturday 6 August to Borakalalo Nature reserve in North of Pretoria, which is at Klipvoor dam. Was the bus's maiden camping trip so I was unsure if she would make the entire tip without issues.
Had a buddy drive with me to assist if anything goes wrong, and, well just as we drove into Soshanguve, halfway there, he called me and tuned me he sees smoke comming from the right rear of my bus, so I looked at the rearview and see a lot of white smoke, which looked like its comming from the exhaust, whic is on the right side.
Stopped, and saw its the rear left wheel smoking like a mofo. It was the brake drum that overheated, since it looks like it was adjusted too high, so it caught all the time I was doing round 110 on the highway.
Used a whole 5 litre water bottle to cool it down slowly till we could jack her up and adjust the rear brake down. So on our mary way we went with about another 50 kilos dirt road ahead f us to reach the destination. But we set it a bit low, so the brakes were kakas on a gravel road, since the fronts locked up like nothing, which was interesting on a dirt road. No other problems and I reached my destination, all be it a bit dusty, well, a LOT dusty.
Didnt take too many pics as it was a relatively short trip and I was trying my best to keep up with a friend's TD5 Defender on a dirt road, with scary brakes.
Was total of around 250 kilos, and well, she behaved well, just need to sort the starter issue once and for all.
Setting up camp - ah no tent to pitch for me, just open door and offlaod my many, many coolboxes
Some nice sunrise pics, early in the cold mornings
Took a game drive on saturday and took a nice shot of some Rhinos, and a Girafe
Camping is fun, but it was cold, for the ground dwellers in their tents, the bus she was lekke warm compared.
We came back tuesday afternoon, no issues at all with the white bus, because had a buddy adjust the rear drums perfect while we were enjoying the bush and a few cold ones.
