OK ..... so having done the intro bit and asking some advice for which I'm truely grateful to the quick response from the members , I now have Bug !
Now it's time to introduce Bug !!
Next hurdle .........posting some photo's being IT challenged this may or may not work

May plan is to now get Bug the way I want her - starting with disk brakes up front and to get her to handle the way she should !
With the disk conversion I'm in two minds as to fitting mags - disk has 4 x 100 pcd bolts or just use an adaptor plate and the current rims
Has anyone fitted the same diameter rims front & back with different profiles and width tyres ?
Next will be the oil leak (got thru road worthy with the leak ??? ) and sort out the Tin at the same time
And then to check out the horrid fuel consumption - she has had an electric fuel pump fitted with no by-pass ? ( I beleive but not confirmed that it is a low pressure pump)
Once I get going on the work and get on top of the down loading bit I will post more photo's

Although I put disk brakes up front on my buggy as well, I personally feel it is a bit of an overkill. The nose of the buggy is very light, and when the front wheels lock (which happens easily), you have no control of you braking.

Same diameter rims with different tyres won't be a problem

Hmmmm !....... never thought about the lock-up !
Then the only really plus side is the ease of obtaining/replacing disk pads vs shoes ?
I bought a set of "VW" shoes for the front from our local spares shop only to discover they were totally wrong when I got them home - will be swopping out this afternoon !

Official it's "Hummer Yellow" the one they use on the Hummers
For me it's Sunshine Yellow - makes feel warm inside when it's cold & wet outside !

Don't bother with discs up front, drums are fine for a buggy and shoes can be relined.
Even drums lock up in the front if you're not careful.
My buggy has same diameter rims, but with different tire sizes, no problem
Is you front wind screen painted aluminium?

Thanx for the advice ! - will definately go the shoes route - much cheaper too
No , the windscreen frame is high gloss black as is the roll bar and bull bars
Now I just need to find that secondhand canopy !

Contact Beach Buggy Club SA for likeminded buggy people. They are based in Melkbos.

There has been lots of chatter about discs vs drums, and I have both, and the only advantage of discs over drums is ease of maintenance, i.e. you don't have to twiddle the seized adjusters every month, and the discs seem to handle descent of mountains, like Piekenierskloof and Tradouw with a trailer, better than drums. This is my personal experience, I was not told this by my brother's friend's second cousin twice removed whose aunt had a beetle which may or may not have had discs.

It doesn't shorten your braking distance significantly, if at all, nor how hard you have to stand on the pedal, for that, you need a brake booster. See Gill's bus thread. Now that really works!! Big toe braking!! Haha!!

That electric fuel pump is fine, depending on what carb(s) you're running as long as it is the low pressure one, (1-4psi? or 4-7? I forget.) Make sure there's one of those interupter relays in the power supply, there's info on the forum about that too.

I also feel that at this stage the swop to disks will be more for ease of maintenance and obtaining spares than any thing else !
I will most definately join one of the club runs soon
