There was a writeup on that twin-engined doublecab in HVW'S or VW Trends looong ago.
Also seen an article about a towtruck that looked similar to the bottom one.
It used an extended baywindow chassis with flat type 4 engine at the back. Low bed to load cars. Think it had a single rear axle with double wheels, not sure. It used the cab from a split singlecab.

The brown doublecab had two type 1 engines and power was coupled by means of a belt at the pulley side. Sounds like a crude effort. Could be wrong, but i vaguely remember reading something about the top engine being upside down.
