412 Variant

Post by Pine »

A running Type 4 (car) is a rare sight these days. This one was spotted this afternoon in Kensington (Jhb, ZA - Eben!), and appears to be in a good condition. The metallic blue is one of the nicest colours they came out with

Nice car- This one has been well looked after - probably been garaged most of it's life, not left outside in the rain and sun.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).

that car is for sale on gumtree. It has no engine, rear subframe and gearbox though. I was also looking at it, but I have enough cars and no space. Here's the ad:

Looks like a lovely car - why would they want to strip out the back end ?

Never been in one and would like to see how they go - look very comfortable

Maybe we can start a thread somewhere about which colours VWSA had available, what they were officially called, and what year each were introduced and what year they were discontinued.

Think 412's had the same colours available as beetles and combi's. In addition to what Jolas mentioned, there was also a light yellow/beige type colour, red, yellow, and white available.

The light green colour was changed slightly at the end of 73. From 74 to 75 it was very slightly more brownish/ darker (think it was then called olive). 75 was the last year it was available.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
