diesel bug?

Post by beetlefocus »

hi girls&boys
after looking @ the more power!! topic it got me thinking ,has anyone ever tried doin 1.9tdi in a bug, would it fit? whats required clutch/gearbox etc?. i'm sure you'd get good mileage on it, 700km or so on a tank and the added power would be a dream, what do you think?

yes i know its watercooled and sounds like a bicycle with cardboard stuck in its spokes

a diesel engine weighs a lot more than a bug engine (read 4 or 5 times as much) so the handling will be up to shiv. Plus the revs are a little lower (not much) so you will need bigger wheels or a longer ratio gearbox.

There's actually one driving around the Strand area (purple) which is running one. It's a little obvious as they didn't try and fit it under the orginal bonnet, they just made a square box over the top and mounted the spare wheel on top (if I remember correctly)....

Anyway, if HR or Barry see it driving around, maybe they can find out some details.....
