Yes they work beautifully to kill the "dry" lines like in the middle of a roof. The also cause runs like crazy. If you are inexperienced and don't have your lighting set up to see EXACTLY how your coverage is, you WILL get runs. Rather live with a little roughness and orange peel.

The fun part is I knew this already!!

Pulled the door closed - I'll look at it again tommorrow before deciding if I'm gonna flat & reshoot, or live with it as is......

Hi Barry ride is lookin sweet man !
I havnt used the thinner you are talking about but its good to know, what makes it different ? Is it a verry "slow" thinner ?

Seems pretty slow, but more than that it almost seems to change the viscosity (far more so than regular thinners)
Paint seems to rum just by looking at it.
Instructions say to add to regular thinning regimen AS WELL AS misting over the panel afterwards

Anyways, I'm not going to be able to live with the defects so more delays!! (to think at one stage I seriously thought I'd make it to LAST year's Whales & Wheels!!!

It's a pity too, 'cause the flat metallic looks friggin' AWESOME! Guess you all' have to wait longer for proper pics

 Barry i dont get it, im sure its just a super slow thinner and misting the panel with it "afterwords" should help with the blending and drying lines but to mix it with regulor thinner .....me thinks is making it much much to thin !! Have had some issues with house of colour piants from the states that there mixing instructions just didnt make sense at all and doing it as it "says on the can" just compounded the fu%^up !It would make sense to me just using it as you thinning agent and nothing else have you tried that ?

I thinned my clearcoat 15% as normal, but instead of using straight 2K thinnners I used a mix of about 70% 2K thinners and 30% blend-in thinners - still only 15% total thinners. If it is simply a very slow thinner I'd be surprised to see as much effect as it seemed to have.
Don't know exactly how it works except that it is very tempermental - hence my advice to leave it to the pro's

Wow Barry. I have read through the whole post this morning and it is quite astonishing. There are but a hand full of people in the country that can do what you do, so feel very proud of what you have achieved. The true measure of a real craftsman is when what they do looks easy, and man do you make it look easy.

Keep up the good work man!!!!

Thanks for the kind words Herbie!
Re-shot the clear and it turned out OK. Still a little patchy, and a small run on the door where I tripped over the air hose. Anyway it is as good as 'm gonna get it, so we're into reassembly now.
Need to do wiring & upholstery and will have it ready just in time for winter!!
Will probably debut at the SAHR street festival at Killarney in May. If all goes well (or I'm smoking something better than my socks) I may even drive up to CITP.....

...where I tripped over the air hose
funny that you should mention that. When a buddy of mine was building a Turbo Mk1 Golf, we used to go to the panelbeater every weekend. And the one day he had just shot the basecoat and it was semi-dry. And we were walking around admiring it and then I tripped on the airhose and landed up on the fender...

Result:
1. Pissed off panelbeater
2. Ruined fender
3. Jeans that have Pepper Gray Metallic paint on them.

Motto of the story: Always look out for airhoses

Prolly....it needs to be done for the SA Hotrods Killarney show on 29(?) May.

Blitz, the tripping was on purpose. I want to run it with old school numbers on the doors. My wife wasn't convinced. But since I need to camofalge my "screw-up"........
