SA bus in the UK

Post by andy f »

Hey all, been lurking in the background for a while but thought I'd post up some pics of my bus.
Now I'm sure some of you may think this should be in the Stolen section, being a South African bus now in the UK

It's a 61, had it for just coming up for 2 years now and thankfully the welding is coming to an end

Needed the usual bottom 6" doing , she's just about back to bare metal now....

Some of the repiars...

It's had inner and outer fron valance and lower nose, passenger side cab floor, passenger side repir in the cargo area, short rear sill, inner and outer sill on the cargo door side, lower repairs on the cargo doors, long outer sill, bottoms of the A and B posts, these were replacement panels and then loads of patching in work :)

So after 2 yeards of bady work I'm hopefully going to respray it this summer then probably another 2 years of doing the rest of it
It's going back together pretty much stock apart from the cargo area, this will be a home made thing mainly to cater for the dogs.

It's got a nice little SA dealer plate on the cab seat area, I'll get a pic and post it up.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the pics

Thanks for the pictures - don't worry about the origins of the Bus -at least over there it's getting a proper resto

Keen to see how this turns out! :hangloose:

Nice bus but you sure it's an SA bus as that's a lot of rot? You are doing a nice job, maybe we can meet up at some point? When Mrs Dutch has had the baby I'm thinking of doing a UK meet if anyone interested.

Nice work keep the updates coming please!

I owned a 1979 Golf Mk1 (Chrome bumper version) in immaculate condition originally sold by Capital Motors in Pretoria. I sold it last year. I bought it from the 2nd owner so I had the books and everything...

Hi, love your project! Capital Motors still exist, but I believe they are just normal VW dealers these days?

They used to be importers & distributors of 'performance' VW parts...
