Towing with a Variant

Post by Pine »

Went through a few old pics tonight and found these of 'Tjokkie' - my old brown '73 412 Variant... what a work horse she was!

Towed an Escort for a friend from Bethlehem to Bloem

Image

Moved the white Variant to a storage facility

Image

Bought a Jetta 1 in Lady Grey, and towed it to Bloem - barely missed the biggest hail storm in a hundred years in Bloem that day!

Image

The day I bought my first Fasty (which is now Blitz's Fasty)

Image

Went to go and fetch my first Bay with the Variant as well

Cool pictures! I used that picture of the Variant towing the fasty as a desktop wallpaper for quite a few months way back in 2007. Pine do you still have the video that you made of it for IMPI?
If it's too low, you're too old

Pine love the pictures and the wheels....

Do you still have the car? Looks like you had her for a long time!

Yes, I do - on VHS, found it again a few weeks ago.

I had that car for about six years and went with it everywhere, including the VW Tour to Uitenhage in 2001 (Tony Z and Bugger was also there)

I eventually sold it when I restored HW1 - last I heard it was on some small Freestate Town. The wheels was sold to a guy who was restoring a 944 Turbo.

The brown Variant was a nice learning school for me - I did all kinds of things to it, like fitted electric windows, a 2.1 EFI system, and a warning buzzer for when you forgot the park lights on and opened the door. It even had a personalised number plate (412VW OFS) Unfortunately, Being the Club Secretary, I got a lot of flack from the other members of the Beetle & Karmann Ghia Club about it (want dit is dan nie 'n Beetle nie!), and I lost interest. In those pre-Internet and pre-ACVWSA days I thought they would never be liked by anyone else but me!

Blitz, I don't know if I ever told you, but I have used the brake fluid bottle of that Fasty on HW1 after the colour change from blue to orange. I had a look at the pictures of the wreck tonight again, and to my amazement saw that it actually survived the accident!

(I only saw the wreck once after the accident, and only had a minute to take pics)

The corpse of HW1 was given to Buggyfan, perhaps he still has the bottle - and perhaps you can make a deal?

Didn't know that you cannablised the bottle from the fasty! :P

I'll let Buggyfan keep his bottle - I'll be converting to the late model setup, with the bottle in the actual boot itself, on the side :)

Pine I love you variant, both actually. Or make that 3. :hangloose:
Would mind one myself. I've always had a thing for 411 and 412s.

Blitz what happened to my 2 door?
The only substitute for cubic inches are more cubic inches.
