Re: My Lowlight SC
After some consultation with Impi,TonyZ and Bugger,we came to the conclusion that the main culprit is cooling.
I fixed at least four problems.First thing I did was got the tin behind the fan shroud that goes on the firewall as the Beetle is more rainbow shaped and the Bus' is more square.Bob took it to work and had to cut a hole in it where the oil cooler duct goes through.
The oil cooler duct was the second thing that was missing.I found a fanshroud with the complete oil cooler tin and made sure that the all holes are closed. Some good duct tape and a couple of new screws did the trick.

Impi also suggested that I replace the heater pipes to allow cool air to blow over the exhaust.

Cleaned up the altenator, replaced the old pressure plate and cleaned the oil cooler.

Then put the whole lot together and fitted it,put a seal in around the engine to keep hot air out the engine compartment.

Tony also suggested I get a cheap rev counter to check the revs.So I got one with a shift light.

BAB came over after work and helped me sort the timing and she runs well.........again.But I have to say that the engine bay stays a lot cooler.

Chris, Your problem may be you are riding your revs to Low.
