Congrats my friend, it looks like a sweet pick up. Sorry we never saw them over here, but then we don't like to lift stuff that high to load. and it was not available in 4x4.
But sweet, happy for you.

Nice Chris!

On the plus side, it has a huge storage area, where something can be left safely, out of the eyesight of criminals. Carries a full 1000kg. Longer loading area than their competition.

Remember some Ford F100 and Dodge pickups of the time only had a 750kg capacity. They had a wider turning circle than a VW,could'nt make the hairpin bends of narrow service roads in the mountains to service radio repeater sites where the VW just could. On a rainy day the front engined 2wd Fords could'nt make it up slippery muddy roads, unlike the VW's.

With only a 3-speed gearbox, and massive engines, the U.S. pickups consumed about 10 miles per US gallon,(24l/100km), nearly twice as much as the VW's. In Namibia, a common conversion was to fit a Deutz aircooled diesel engine in the F100 to reduce fuel consumption.

So at the time the VW's were better suited to countries where fuel has always been way more expensive than in the US. Must say the Ford's soft suspension was comfortable and it was faster.

A case of different horses for different courses. And the S.A. course was very different from the U.S. one.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).

Thanks guys. :P

Interesting facts! Thanks Dawie.

Although I must ad that the suspension on this SC is very soft due to the IRS and soft front suspension.

Looking good, now slap a roofrack on it, and the aforementioned trim rings, and you are on your way to a resto cal.
