Re: Subaru Engine addapter plates
Rather than fit an adapter, it might be better to substitute a custom-made cluth housing (available from Richard Jones Engineered Solutions, in Staffordshire, England), which will allow you to retain the factory-standard Subaru flywheel, clutch & starter motor.

Re: Subaru Engine addapter plates
Hi Nigel the rjes conversion is for the IRS type transmissins from a bay window bus where the bell housing can be bolted off and changed so here in Sunny SA we have to use the adapter when going in to a Beetle

...and £190 for the gearbox input shaft that you have to use if using subaru plate.

7 grand before P&P??
Bugger's adaptor is a 1/4 of that I'm sure.

Re: Subaru Engine addapter plates
Welcome Beetle_juice.The right person to speak to will be Bugger. He can do the conversion and can also supply you with the adaptor plates as well as tell you what you will need in terms of gearbox strenght, and then also build you a box if needs be.
Let's just say he is like a one-stop-conversion-shop
Introduce yourself in the "New members introduce yourselfs" thread and tell us a little more about yourself and your car.And ad pics

Re: Subaru Engine addapter plates
Will the stock gearbox hold up to a subaru conversion. Only if you dont use the car.
Dude, the gbox is designed for 60hp
It can be made to handle the power, but its not cheap.
2.5t subaru in a bug... that is going to be lightening quick, not just fast. Hope you have done the disc brake conversion first and installed a roll cage, with racing seats and 5 point harnesses. If not, that conversion WILL kill you

Re: Subaru Engine addapter plates
Hi As said to you on SMS
Can supply the adapter and disc brake conversion and a few other things and tech help
The better motor to use is the ej20t it is a single turbo motor and the conversion is easy
The 2,5 motor has plastic cam gear pullys and for some way or the other they do not like to be in a VW they keep crackking and breaking
The std box will last for a while if you fit some of my mountings and braces but till you go really wild it will eventually pack up and can be BEEFED up
The basic Conversion will set you back around R30 000.00 adapter motor radiator surge tank 2 fuel pumps water pipes exhaust and oil cooler etc
Think you got the point by now
My old cabrio is getting a Subaru Twin turbo motor but it is a pain in the ass to make every thing fit
PM me or shoot it here if you got some more Questions so I can try and assist you where I can
