MINCE's run of Misfortune

Post by MINCE »

Hey guys

Been a long time since I have been on here, but I bet noone missed me.
Anyways, my story.

Last year in July, a close friend of mine offered to sell me his 1957 Oval for good money and right away I agreed. In August I flew up to Johannesburg to look at the car and it was perfect in every way. Except that the previous owner to him welded up the semaphore holes (f***ing bastard). Had the original W decklid and steering wheel, even came with an original roofrack!
I was in tears I was so happy.

About a month later he called me again asking if I could fit my drums into my Fiesta, and I said yes and then he suggested we do a straight swop, because all he was using the oval for was carting his drums to gigs! (he is a well known musician in Johannesburg). Anyway, I said okay? Then he said, lets just sort out all the niggles on each car so we both get a sorted ride.

I was over the moon, except that when I started sorting out the "niggles" on my car, I found they were all SERIOUS issues. I worked hard, and spent quite a bit of money on fixing these things when I could. And I finally got all the things fixed on my car, and I am now counting the cents at the end of every month.

He was doing the same and the past weekend was when he was going to truck the beetle down to me.

Yesterday he sent me a message that he doesn't feel comfortable to give me the car because the stuff he was fixing still kept braking. Like the brake switch, the rear drums, splutering of the motor, and he said it is falling apart in front of his eyes. Out of interest, I asked him "WAS THE BEETLE RESTORED BY BEETLE BUDDIES?", and he said Correct!

So, from all our hard work in him trying to organise his car for me (he knew how passionate I was about his car) and for me to sort my car for him, we had to pull the deal because of yet ANOTHER BEETLE BUDDIES SHODDY JOB!

I am so glad they are out of business.

Yesterday, I actually cried! All that hard work and time and money and stress, FOR NOTHING!

If one of you guys pass anyone associated with Beetle Buddies, please do not hesitate in beating the living piss out of them for me?

Thanks you

Hi,

What a sad story! I am convinced I had seen your friend and his Oval in Melville not too long ago hauling drums out of it. I nearly head-butted him to steal his car! *kidding* It looked like a truly remarkable vehicle though and appeared to run fine then.

Fortunately I had not ever dealt with Beetle Buddies before. I remember upon getting my car to Jhb I went there for an idea of price for them to fit new push-rod seals. Well, I nearly passed out at the price and the instant list of "have-to-do's-or-else" the rather desperate sales guy rattled off to me from his office. He hadn't even SEEN the car yet! I am guessing it was out of sheer desperation that he harped on about dozens of things that would need to be done in the hope that I was some sucker who'd fall for it. I thanked him, turned around and left. What nutters!

Yeah, the beetle is blue with widened rear rims and lowered front end.

Apparently everything has to come out of the car. The axle tubes were discovered to be wrong for the car,

 I hate stories like this.

Really sorry to hear of losing the car like that dude.

Have you considered buying it as a project and then slowly fixing it up?

Cant afford it. The oval was supposed to be an everyday drive which is why I was gonna swop. I was originally gonna sell mine to pay for it before he offered the swop

ya for sure, but in the haste of fixing it, i am currently in debt. i could have fixed the stuff over time and made things easier for myself.

can you say "count the pennies"?

but anyway. tough luck. maybe it will happen again, but I was really looking forward to surprising you all with a pic of me and my oval.
maybe one day still. won't settle for less
