So even if you bring only the body of the car (no chassis, engine suspention etc.) in, and get a South African chassis with SA VIN etc.. They will still stop that? Darn was a good idea thou.

Gents.. Just a question.. What will the implications be if you import through Lesotho, Botswana or even Namibia.
We have a farm in Namibia,, and I know folks in Lesotho,, won't that be an alternative to keep to the law hmmmmm in another way and drive them over the border and sell them here. Might have regestration issues but just an idea

Ok, it seems that it is misunderstood by some what my idea was. I wanted to buy convertables strip them to a bare shell (might leave the side windows and small parts) covert it to right hand drive and then just export the shell. No chassis, engine, trans etc. But things like roofs etc, can be shipped seperate. And the Namibia idea sounds ok, if their rules (laws) is more lax than SA's and SA don't have any problems bringing stuff from there.
As you will have to find an South African chassis the vin number will be no problem as it is an SA "build" chassis. But like I said it is just an idea. But we can work on it.
To answer a question about the availability of Convertables, it all depends on what you want, I have seen them for as little as $100,00 rolling shells to thousands of dollar show cars. But my idea was to find cheap ones that are not rust buckets to do the export, so prices will fluctuate on condition and location of an available unit, But the idea is to keep cost low.

You can still import the bodies as parts. There should be no problem with that.

I wouldn't say no to a "SA built RHD cabriolet". :-)

Now I truley want to be no 2 on that list after JH :D or is it 3de

I can also not see the reason why only shells can be imported that is actually a brilliant Idea

strip the shell as you say then crate the door handels roof side windows and some ods and sods

The guys in Cape town why dont you find out from the Guys that bring the Muscle cars inn how they do it if they can so may be we are able to bring a bit more complete cars inn

Now lets all do some more investigation in to this was tickled from the beginning now even more :D

I agree. I think we should investigate it further. There has to be a way to get them here for a reasonable price.

As I am a little laid up at the moment, but as soon as I can I will be looking into this again. Anybody over there that has brought a car into the country that you know? Ask some questions on what are needed and how difficult it is, and look into the law side of it.
