Engine conversion

Post by SFDT »

Has anybody replaced the suspension, gearbox and engine of a buggy with the entire frame out of a front wheel drive car?(Engine gearbox and suspension as a unit) This should be more or less a mid engine car.

Won't you have a problem with the wheels turning?

In view of the problems of breaking stock VW gearboxes with more powerful motors and the problems with gearing it would help if the gearbox and engine were matched. You could have a 5 or 6 speed buggy. I remember Powerking racing a dragster in PE using a Mini subframe and motor. If I can find a photo I will post it.

Well if yuo put 260 Kw = 348Hp = 7.57X the 45Hp the std Transmision were designed for you would even have SHIT WITH YOUR HONDA BMW OR SMOPEL sorry OPEL so the the Story with Wieght is brought in to the Equation

I Do have one Of the Strongest Bugs in the Country if not the strongest on the wheels at the moment but my Mass is my Enemy at this stage So I am planning to Fit my motor to my Buggy which I have done a 11.1 Sec with the help of JohnHoffe in 1998 YES 1998 with a AIR COOLED motor so My aim is a 9sec BUGGY

Yes Talk is cheaper than Whiskey but `ll be there

I I know of atleast 4 other That will iether be there before me or be my Competition and that will help raisingthe barr

Yes I know you said STD box and matching the motor to it

But spending the money on a nicely after market beetle modiefied box is much nicer than to have a other highbrid but yes then I also agree that a other motor conversion W/C throws the whole Equation in the Water :D

I`ll be W/c and AC

Are we talking cars or aeroplanes? I see you are on the extreme end of the envelope. I was thinking sort of Golf 1800 and gearbox. Whats that, maybe 80kw? I would like to see your car go though. Also still like the aircooled option for its weight and compactness.

It will be actually much easier to do the Golf motor and Box setup in the back of a buggy
There is ample space it would be super reliable and also nice light on Fuel

Let us know how your project goes

There is a Video clip of my beetle painting black lines in the George Challenge thread
