Desperately in need of '59 Beetle Fuel pump!!!

Post by GavinHuart »

Hi!

Hopefully I am doing this right and moreover hopefully someone can help me :? I need to get my hands on a fuel pump for a '59 original Beetle. Strangely enough I have not yet seen the car but to my knowledge it's the side-mounted type for the 1100. Can anyone help? I have rang Beetle Beauties in Roodepoort as well as Van Den Brink Motors on Malibongwe drive and no luck. Trying Joe's near Cresta but hard to get hold of anyone there... Please reply or mail me should you have any ideas. Preferably in the Johannesburg vicinity too. Many, many thanks, Gavin () - (attached is a pic of what I envisage the pump to look like)

Hi and thank you for the warm welcome.

To be quite honest I don't know an awful lot about this '59 Beetle. I had seen it advertised quite some distance from where I live and was thrilled to have gotten hold of the owner and hear the car is still available. The photo uploaded is near the size of a postage stamp so it's quite hard to decipher authenticity. It seems a pretty straight and clean deal and is that sort of find that one can't afford not to investigate. I have a feverish passion for older Beetles and already have a delightful '62 all original 1200 Beetle (Daisy) who was a similar find and we are joined at the hip. The '59 has been explained to have a wonky fuel pump so to be on the safe side I want to arrive there (also some distance away) equipped with a spare pump in the event we run into trouble on the road.

Ah, well spotted. Presumably being an apparent stock car it will be 6 volt. Now that does pose a slight problem.

Naw, just take a battery with you and put it in a cat-litter tray in the passenger foot well... It's only temporary right?

Good thinking. And yes, it will only be temporary. Due to posting, another member has gotten into contact and let me know of him having a '59 Fuel pump in good order for sale about 20 mins drive from here! I am definitely acquiring that one which will solve the problem permanently. Looks like I am in luck all the way!! (Now tomorrow just needs to arrive ;) )
