oil pump Type 4 into type 1 motor

Post by Haans »

Hi all,....call it a "fettish" or just paranoid regarding the oil system of air cooled motors,..... BEFORE we judge too harshly !!
I have in my possession an engine that has a hole in no 3 piston due to timing too fast,...so I'm told but ?
the interesting thing is ,...it has a type 4 oil pump in it ???
I checked with aunty Google and it is a type 4 pump,,.
now the question why ?? better flow rate / capacity ??
any takers on this one ?

regards Haans

Not an expert on VW oil pumps, but think the only difference if not in thickness of gears(26mm) ....

..... is the one is opened from the front and the other from the back.

I know there are a few changes on cam slots but if it fits ....

I personally like the type 1 as you can service and skim it back to spec without taking the pump out.

Sure the fundies will give a better reply.
