Ok so it's been a while since I've updated this topic. Had a few teething problems in the last two weeks.

Firstly the day after I took delivery the main oil pipe from the cooler burst causing 5 liters of oil to find places I never knew existed in a beetle engine compartment. Leaving us stranded on the roadside we removed the pipe an luckily found a hydraulic specialist open on a Saturday morning to repair it for us. Luckily the newly fitted oil gauges gave me plenty warning to switch off and take a freewheel to a nearby side street.

Next on the list was a water leak. Where two of the newly fitted water pipes join together near the rear of the car. The flexible hose was way too short and had slipped to one side causing a slight water leak. Easy enough to repair but a real headache after getting the car back.

Next on the list was the accelerator cable. From day one the pedal was way too stiff for my liking. I was told this was normal. I rode like that for a week having the throttle get stuck open numerous times. Eventually the cable gave up and snapped. We removed the cable to find that the outer sleeve had been crushed possibly when the motor was reinstalled for the second time after clutch replacement. We were fortunate enough to get the outer opened up again to let the cable move freely within. Just a tip for anyone out there, carrying a electrical 3 pin plug in your car is a great way to quick fix a cable. Still riding like this will have a new cable made shortly.

Then last week a misfire made itself know! I knew straight away a plug had given up. So ordered some new plugs and when I removed the old ones one of the electrodes were completely melted away! First thing that came to mind was the motor was running lean. Road it a bit with new plugs and all was ok for a day. Then last Friday when hitting the road from Rustenburg through to Roodepoort a strange miss started again. After riding about 20ks like this I knew I had to stop so stopped at the garage filled the tank. Had a look around all seemed to be ok. Started the motor and the miss was gone again. So I assumed ok faulty injector must be drowning a plug. Was hampered with a come and go misfire most the weekend. Then Saturday afternoon we made our way back to Rustenburg from swartkops. For about 10ks there was a misfire then it magically disappeared. All was good the rest of the way home. So this week I removed the injectors and sent them in for a cleaning and testing. Not really a big surprise one injector was under fueling and leaking. That was the cause for a melted spark plug. We found another injector yesterday which I will pick up this afternoon and all four will be fitted again and hopefully all will be back to usual.

I must admit driving the beast is great fun when there are no problems. To see the reaction on faces when a beetle races past is just classical. I've been asked numerous times already at the robot "what motor is in there" to which I reply "it's only a 1300".

cool story. If you still have issues with the plugs after new injectors are installed, try going to a colder type of plug. Go one or two up in the number range (say you have a D7EA plug, try a D8EA or D9EA).

Bp8es were the plugs that were fitted as a quick fix. The original rotary plugs cost R700 for 4. Spoke to a rotary specialist and he suggested a plug to me I can't remember the number now. It is a ngk from there racing range and they work a treat! Thanks Tony.

Cars in at spitronics agent having all wiring redone. A nigly little misfire is hampering me. Wiring up the radiator fan to the ecu. Car will be on the dyno again. Looking for a smoother power delivery and better fuel consumption which I have been assured of. Will keep all posted. Replaced the speedo cable after a lengthy almost 2 years. Lazy I know gps was a quick fix. Oil cooler piping with be uprated and a air scoop will be fitted to the oil cooler for better flow. Rear engine brace will also be designed and fitted soon to help with wheel hop. Suspension was also raised about an inch as the underbody caught at any little dip in the road. Scary at about 150. Also sourced a steering box from callooker with try get a chance to pick that up soon. A redesign is also in progress for the fan belt assembly. Single belt unable to handle the high engine speeds. Luckily caught a almost broken belt before it let go. Still looking for more rotary guys out there to share there experiences. Will update after dyno has been done.

And then it died!!!

Had the car back for about 2 week after some dyno work. Seems as though the apex seals have let go. No compression on no.1 rotor.

Bug will be out of action for a while again!!!!!!

I'm back people. Been in the dark for a while but things are going to start happening soon. Been in contact with Arthur from Aj Racing and a 200kw motor is what we after. Possibly even more in the future. Will be visiting bugger soon if he's not too busy for a nice little box. Will keep everyone posted.

Been standing too long. Need to get the engine and gearbox out and sent away for rebuild.
