My not so new Split !

Post by Donovan D »

After looking at the old toppies 58 Beetle, he showed me his bus
He said if I want I can take it, only thing is I need to take everything off his property not just strip what I need
So my plans for this one is to drop it, get some nice wheels and drive as is.

I will only be able to collect this bus next year,
I need to get my panel going so I can make space in the garage for this one, The bus is sunk in the ground, and very rusty. The roof is completely off the bus and all doors are rusted shut,I opened the passenger side door and the hinges pulled out the body.
If I was in the UK I would have considered fixing this one up and making it a project, simply because all the panels are easily available
The bus is complete as can be, the only thing I noticed that was missing was the top "airbox" latch.
Its even got the front badge !!!! but the old guy wants to keep it :x

Im no expert but it looks like a 63. Its got push button bootlid, church-key fuel flap, and the pull style door handles

Wide rear door was introduced in the 64 model year, which started August 63. Early 64 models still had the pull type outer front door handles. Think the newer style door lock mechanism with pushbutton was introduced halfway through the 64 model year. 64 was last year of slide- type front heater outlets as used on the Fleetline.
65 -67 has twin heater outlets with a selector lever. Think 64 was first year for rounded headlight buckets, as seen from inside the cab. Earlier and Fleetlines has a sqeezed shape headlight bucket.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).
