Car is still in the workshop cylinder head has been totally reconditioned, the block also had to be rebored oversize and fitted with new pistons due to the engine getting so hot the piston over expanded and shrunk when they cooled down, cylinder bores had also gone oval. The engine is currently at the engineers getting built up to a sub assembly or short block. The engine had suffered extensive damage from the overheating even though the stupid temperature light never came on. I am having a temperature gauge fitted so at least I can spot issues next time. The repairs are costing a cool R30 000 modern engines aren't cheap to fix thank goodness the warranty I took out is covering all costs. Can't wait to get my car back been driving a loan Suzuki Alto from the dealer

great news that it is getting redone at the insurances expense.

Hopefully those Cool Ants will now be happy and keep living in Livinia's engine. To keep the coolness in there.

Would it not have been more cost effective to source a low mileage Japanese engine? Friend of mine had a Tiida with a blown gasket and we sourced a low mileage engine ex Japan for around R15k

Luckily the warranty covered the repairs. I would definitely consider your suggestion of a low mileage engine when I have to pay.

The warranty would never cover a import low mileage engine, too much to risk on their side if something went wrong with it even though I think they are sold with a 3 month warranty, but if I was paying for it I would have taken that option.I took out a 2 yr warranty on the car just in case anything like this happened so I would be covered. Unfortunately the car won't be ready this year, no one has stock of the stretch type cylinder head bolts for it.
